Hurricane Isaac

Hurricane Isaac hit the Gulf Coast of the United States hard. Its direct hit threatened the still recovering New Orleans area, along with the coast of Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.
Although it made landfall in Louisiana on August 28, 2012 as a category 1 hurricane, tropical storm weather conditions were issued across the state of Florida in the days leading up. About 1 million people suffered power outages throughout six states and 34 tornadoes reportedly touched down — many in Florida.
Isaac dumped rainfall, causing storm surge to rise more than 10 feet in some areas along the coast, which led to mass flooding in some Louisiana parishes.
Although the catastrophic storm caused $2.8 billion in damage and 41 lost lives, Isaac remains one spot out of the top-25 most costly storms in U.S. history.
